Work Together
here come-old searcher he come
moanin’up grumpy he stays
im-pact factor he wants
better grants than he got
eyes – up - to his fees
got to be hard worker
and just do what he please
he wear no blue jeans he got
thick glasses on his nose
old fashion and hair style
Nobel Prize in his mind
he knows rules, but needs me
One thing he will tell you is
You’d never be free
Work together, right now
…on your knees
I can stay here all the day
even nights and week-ends
western blots till I die
eating crackers I can
If I would love to dream
Let me do my research
You can join this new team
Work together, right now
…beyond me
I roller coaster I got
early warning I got
Many fellows, I have
and my post-docs they said
one and one and one is you
Got to be nice being
If you want to work here
Work together, right now
beyond me
Work together, yeah
Work together
Work together, Yeah
Work together
Work together, Yeah
The (Bacteria) Wall
We don't need no
microtubules
We don't need no
vesicules
No dark granules
in the mushroom
‘Searchers leave the cells alone
Hey, ‘searchers, leave them cell alone
All in all it's just bacteria has a wall
All in all we say bacteria has a wall
We don't need no
microtubules
We don't need no
vesicules
No dark granules
in the mushroom
‘Seachers leave the cells alone
Hey, ‘searchers, leave them cell alone
All in all it's just bacteria has a wall
All in all we say bacteria has a wall
“Wrong, do it again”
“Evolution, try again, you can't have any ending
How can you have any ending if you don't make it again?”
You, yes, try again to make nucleus and thing
Publication
(I can get no)
I can't get no publication,
I can't get no publication,
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, — I can't get no.
When I'm workin' in my lab
and the review pops on my mailbox
and it's tellin' me more and more
about some useless information
supposed to drive my imagination.
I can't get no, — oh no no no.
Hey hey hey — that's what I say.
I can't get no publication,
I can't get no publication,
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, — I can't get no.
When I'm watchin' my movies
and a man comes on to tell me
how green my Golgi can be.
But he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't do
the same great science as me.
I can't get no, — oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, — that’s what I say.
I can't get no publication,
I can't get no publication,
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, — I can't get no.
When I'm ridin' round the world
and I'm showin' this and I'm sayin' that
and I'm meetin' this Editor
who tells me, Man, better come back later next year
'cause you see you're on losing streak.
I can't get no, — oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, — that’s what I say.
I can't get no, — I can't get no.
no publication, no publication, no publication.

Temple of Springer
One day in the year of the fox
Came a time remembered well
When the strong young man
of the rising sun
heard the Tolling of the great black bell
One day in the year of the fox
when the Bell began to ring
it meant the Time had come
for the one to go
to the Temple of Springer
There in the middle of the circle, he stands
Searching, Seeking,
With just one touch of his trembling hand
The answer will be found
Daylight waits for the oldman’s scream
Heaven, help me,
Just like a rush of thousand wings
It shines upon the world
And the day has just begun
One day in the year of the fox
Came a time remembered well
When the strong young man
of the rising sun
heard the Tolling of the great black bell
One day in the year of the fox
when the Bell began to ring
it meant the Time had come
for the one to go
to the Temple of Springer
There in the middle of people he stands
Seeking, feeling
Just one touch of the strong right hand
He's gone,
to the Temple of Springer
Far from the circle of the edge of the world
He's smoking, wandering
Thinking back of the stories he's told
Before he's gonna see
There in the middle of the circle he lies
Heaven, help me
All could see by the shine in his eyes
The answer has been found
Back with the people in the circle he stands
Seeing, feeling
With just one touch of the strong right hand
they know
Of the Temple and Springer
Science Monomania
On a dark desert campus, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the talk
There I stood in the doorway;
I heard the session bell
And I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell
Then I lit up a beamer, and I showed them my way
There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Science Monomania
Such a lovely place, such a lovely race
Plenty of fools at the Science Monomania
Any time of year, you can find them here
They are h-factor twisted, got citation sickness
They got a lot of pretty famous work,
that they call art
How they talked in the meetings,
years after years
Some talk to remember, Some talk to forget
So I called up my student; Please bring me my mac (I said)
I haven't had that spirit here since I was in the lab
and still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Science Monomania
Such a lovely place, such a lovely race
Plenty of fools at the Science Monomania
Any time of year, you can find them here
Honours and then falling; all the fame is past (and I said)
We are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And with their impact factor,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
but they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember,
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
to the lab I was before
"Relax" said the grant man;
we are programmed to receive
You can check in anytime you like,
But you can never leave...
